The Mockingbirds were managed by Kennedy Street Enterprises and Harvey Lisberg, who also had Herman’s Hermits under his supervision and who would later become the manager of 10cc.

With Gouldman in their ranks, original material was starting to be written - some in the back of Bargains Unlimited, a mens clothes shop in the Manchester suburb of Salford, where Gouldman worked.

It was here that Gouldman wrote the lines of his first millionseller "For Your Love". It was intended to be the first Mockingbirds single. The group recorded the song together with "That’s how it’s gonna stay", also written by Gouldman - which their record company preferred and was released.

The Yardbirds recorded it, making it a UK and US top 10 hit in 1965.

Sadly, the Mockingbirds didn’t have much success with their single - a story that continued throughout their recording career.
