Time & Place 28/6/69

L-R Dave Bowker (Bass /Vocal), Dave Melia (Drums) Martin Tetlow (Organ) Alan Faulkner (Gtr/vocal)

I joined Money on lead vocals, seemingly as the money was running out. A fter minimal rehearsal (probably none!) my first gig was a heavy duty working mans club - possibly in Bradford or some where.

It was one of Moneys regular gigs and the crowd had not seen me there before. The "Committee" definitly did not like my singing and did not want that " bloody new singer" to go back onstage, so I remember the lads just played 'Time Is Tight' by Booker T and the MG's, which seemed to last forever. God was I glad to get out of there!

Shortly after, the bass player (Greeb?) left and I hopefully had settled in a bit better by then. We became a 4 piece, with Dave Melia on drums. I played bass and sang till the Money finally ran out and I ran off, joining Sponge in the Bahamas as a replacement for Jack Lancaster.

Backing Mike on both singles were Blue Mink and Thunderthighs.

At this time Mike worked closely with Bill Kenwright (who acted as his manager) appearing in some of Bill's early musical productions.

Mike has continued to write, record and produce and has continually gigged with a number of bands over the last forty years - occasionally dragging ex Cymerons,ex Money group members out of retirement.

Memories

Money were a great band. They worked for me at the Broadway Hotel in New Moston, where I was booking the groups for the landlord..

They were a great r'n' b group  - very strong and they pulled in the crowd..

Hope they are all ok.  Mick is still one of  the best singers I've heard and a great precence.

Great days.

Tony Manton
