I was the singer in the GT'S(1966) unusual at the time as we played mainly Otis Redding, Wilson Picket, Sam & Dave and Booker T & the MG's. Played mainly round the Stockport area.
In the early 70's I was a member of a duo. - JASON &GEE who appeared on New Faces and am still singing regularly in the seaside resort of Portpatrick under the stage name of Dave Lawrence.
Didn't actually see The GT's but I had the priveledge of playing bass for Dave in the band "The Mixture" after Bob Harrison left, around 1990 /1993 along with Paul Mycock on guitar and Eddie Edwards on drums. Best fun ever ! every gig was a gas with Dave. He's still a good act.
Under The Wire Band.
Pictured at the top of the page is a rare photo of the GTs circa 1966 at Marple Liberal Club. I don't know who took it but it seems to be a faded polaroid. Not many photos were taken back then so this is rare indeed. I am still looking for any others I can find but don't hold much hope. The fashions of the time are aptly displayed by myself wearing the naff silk shirt! Sadly the pic does not show the whole band. Ah happy days!
Tony Woolley (drums)
Now playing with another Marple band - The DelTones
Hey Dave! Check out the Vox bass top in the photo, I've still got one,and it works perfectly, super sound.
