The Kestrels
Rawtenstall

THE KESTRELS formed around 1964.

I met up with Peter Elmer in the school brass band.  He asked if I fancied getting a rock band together as he also played keyboards and I could sing and play trumpet. His brother David played guitar and so we started to rehearse in their parents  front room in Rawtenstall.  Soon after we had Allan Seadall  on bass and Barry Fisher on drums.

We found a new rehearsal room at Long Holme methodist church Rawtenstall for a short while and then rehearsed for some years at Rakefoot Methodist school in Crawshawbooth.

Main problem was transport as we were so young and so we had to beg ,steel and borrow. The name on the business card that you have was John Davey  who managed us for a while and even joined us on stage to sing and play rhythm guitar.

We played all the local clubs in and around Rossendale and had gigs most weekends. Happy times!!!

I stayed with the band untill 1968 and then sang with a band called MOTHERS RUIN from Burnley\ Padiham. This band became SWEET MAGIC from Burnley and I sang with them I think till mid 1970s. Great band , played all over the country. Can still remember we got work though L. E agency Wigan .

So much work the van kept breaking down so we had to invest in a newish shiny black long wheel base FORD TRANSIT - (AS YOU DO)!!! ANYONE REMEMBER US?
