Syd and Eddie

Syd (Syd Little) (b. Cyril John Mead, December 29, 1942, Blackpool, Lancashire, UK), grew up in Manchester and was educated at Yew Tree Secondary School in Wythenshawe, Manchester. He worked as an interior designer and started as a singer and guitarist in Manchester pubs, before joining up with Eddie (Eddie Large) (b. Edward Hugh McGinnis, June 25, 1941, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland, UK).

As for Eddie he had moved to Manchester with his family at a young age. Eddie met Syd in a Manchester pub where Syd was singing and Eddie had a comedy act. They started playing together in 1961 as semi-professionals. Having taken a instant liking for each other, they realised one was a foil for the other, and so decided to team up for a talent contest and they came second, which was a remarkable achievement for such a short time together. This encouraged them to stay together and they turned professional in October 1963. They became very popular in the North of England.

They started out as Syd and Eddie before becoming Cyril Mead and Friend, then Mead and McGinnis. They later changed their name to Little and Large as Syd Little and Eddie Large. They won Opportunity Knocks in 1971 and this eventually led to a successful twenty year career.
They had the TV shows ''Who Do You Do'' (1973 - 1976) and the ''Little and Large TV Show'' (1977 - 1991).
