The Jasons
Line-up
- Trevor Schofield (aka Tony Field) - rhythm guitar/vocals
- Malc Yates - drums
- Alan Mawdsley - lead guitar
- Tony Prince - lead vocals
There was an earlier line up including Harold Jones on rhythm guitar and Bill Harrison on bass joined. After Tony and Trevor left, the group continued for another couple of years with Bill Harrison moving from bass player to lead vocalist, John Lugo coming in on rhythm guitar and Dave Chapel on bass guitar.
The Jasons played resident at The Savoy throughout 1961/62 with many visiting Manchester bands on Thursdays - Hollies, Freddie, Johnny Peters, Olympics, Tremors (my favourite).
We played The Oasis, Twisted Wheel, Lee Road Social Club and Bernard Manning's Embassy and Paladium.
We were regulars at The Black Swan, Irlam, a great scene.
Unfortunately the lads in the band wouldn't turn pro when we were offered a season at Butlins so I went my own way.
I'd sure like to see any photos people may still have of the Jasons. We had hand-out pics but I no longer have one. I attach a pic sent to me from Harold Jones who now lives in Switzerland.

Tony Prince
After the band split up I changed my name to Tony Field and went solo. I made a couple of records for Polydor including an album called "Perfect strangers" and did numerous radio broadcasts singing with the BBC radio orchestras.
In 1980 I emigrated to Australia where I had a successful cabaret act which lasted till December 2005. In April 2006 I returned to U.K.to happily retire in London.
My favourite memory of Tony Prince is of him dressed up as Tarzan and swinging onto the stage as I was singing a lovely ballad.

Trevor Schofield (Tony Field)
The Jasons were the support band at the Oasis the night Johnny Kidd and The Pirates played their only appearance in Manchester. Whilst hiding out in the little dressing room to the right of the stage the band consumed many Wimpeys washed down with vodka.
John Lugo
I remember one Saturday night social, at Grosvenor Hall, Ward Street, Oldham.
Top of the bill were The Jasons, local lad Harold Jones' band. The Jasons appeared on stage wearing jerseys with a giant black and white houndstooth pattern.
That was the first band I ever saw live, sadly I can't remember the year, but I think it was the late 1950s.
Shortly afterwards Harold Jones left for Switzerland.
