OASIS GIG DIARY 1965

Another excellent document, this one from Alan Fildes. Must have been a great time Alan, but where did you get the cash from? I was broke!

amazing. Wish I had been born a few years earlier to have been at this place. I would certainly have made it my 'regular'. Imagine seeing 'Them'(18th April) - I'd have been in heaven. This is such a great site. Thanks for all the information. Marie

Me and the girlfriend went quite a few times to the Oasis in 1965 & early 1966.  I seem to think that Brian Poole had left the Trems by the time they played there. We saw The Who 3s/6d that night and Little Steve Wonder which cost 5s, normal prices were about 2s/6d.  On our first visit which was our first date we saw Lulu however at first we couldn't go weekends as the girlfriend was still engaged to somebody else!

We saw the Beatles there who were supporting The Undertakers
I think it was 1963. At the time we preferred  the Undertakers
whom had a much bigger sound with saxophones in the group.
Don't remember much about the Beatles slot they weren't heading
the show. If we only knew then what we know now.

What a great club the Oasis was.The club was very dark and dingy situated in a cellar on Lloyd street they served only soft drinks.I was a mod and I had my blue surge suit handmade at Harry Davis in Moss side for £12.I was 15/16 an apprenticed joiner on £4 a week in 1966.The Nags head and the rising sun was the place to go for a quick pint ,you could have the back of your hand stamped to come in and out.No trouble in the club mods on one side rockers on the other side.Dj was Phil Woodbine.I saw  bands like Ike and Tina Turner,Family Troggs Herman’s Hermits,Paul and Barry Ryan,Mersey beats,Lee Dorsey,Young Rascals,Rev black and may more.
