Sinbad, you old rascal.Glad you picked up a few tips on the night. In the old days we DJs used microphones and TALKED to our audiences! Most Jocks today are Mixers and don,t ever use a Mic. The music has,and always will be,more important than the patter. All my old equipment is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum,Sinbad! ( Cheeky Sod.)

I remember Fred as being good mates with Larry Edwards from Souled as Seen. Susie & I were invited to a party at the Fudge Factory in Bacup some yrs ago.
They did a terrific rendition of Just my imagination. RIP Larry.

I remember him well in the Wood Street Beer Kellar on Deansgate, and at the Barbarella Disco in Eccles, both around around 1970 to 72. His voice and patter were a lot like DLT....He also looked a bit like him!

I owe a lot to Fred, he taught me the ropes and how to present myself, like he said in a comment further up, today's DJs are mixers and never use a microphone, I'm old school, I could not be without a microphone... Thanks Fred...John Clews

Today being Friday 15th December 2023, having just finished a lengthy Telephone call with my old pal, and DJ. Dave Eager. We still get together periodically for Fish Chips and Mushy peas, he reminded me of a recent visit Steve Knowles and I had with him. Now Steve was a Top Feller from the old days and the Factotums, ( Our very own Manchester "Beach Boys" ) and it was Steve who first introduced me to the Man who brought Tamla Motown, to England, John Schroeder. Well, cutting a L O N G  story short, I told Dave I had just won a few Beers on a subject he was very much involved in. I was in the Millstone Pub in the Northern Quarter of Manchester when a number of Fellers were chatting with me about 60s Manchester Music Scene and how they ALL loved going to the C.I.S. on a Saturday night when Dave Eager and Pete Doyle were DJ s. I said, "No, you didn't!!" THEY insisted and it was getting very heated because I questioned their honesty AND memory, so, a wager ensued, A GALLON OF BEER! I gently reminded them, it was the New Century Hall, NOT, the C.I.S.    "Oh, yeah," they said, so I drank the wager and wobbled home.
