The Midnight Creepers / The Faction (Oldham)
Line-up included:
- John Lees - lead
I played lead guitar with the above band formed at Counthill Grammar School,Oldham in the mid sixties. Our first gig was at St.Ambrose Church Hall, Derker for which we were auditioned! The fee was 5 pounds!!!!.
Unfortunately no-one has any cutting from newspapers re press adverts to my knowledge but we played in various clubs, schools, etc. round Oldham.
Our major claim to fame was sharing a gig at Notre Dame High School for girls in Manchester with The Blues Keepers – soon to become Barclay James Harvest! I got to know John Lees and Stuart Wolstenholme at the time as I lent Stuart my black Bbeatle-neck pullover for their spot!
Years later when my daughter wanted to play brass, she joined Dobcross Band Club and who should I meet but John – his son J.J. having also joined the band. I see him quite regularly and I must remember to return a Vox amp that he lent me!
I currently have an original Hofner Club 40 (blonde) and a Harmony H77 which I occasionally play but would like to start playing again publicly if I could find some interested geriatric players.
John M.Lees

How are you? I have a lovely picture of you and Ian together from those distant days and still keep in touch with the members of the group with the exception of Peter, our singer.
I tried to resurrect the Faction for my 70th birthday bash but the only person prepared to do it was Steve who used to play bass! Needless to say we didn’t go ahead!
