You too? We were from Broughton/Fulwood and followed 'em as they were definitely the best group doing the rounds. Saw 'em at Woodplumpton, several times at Barton Village Hall, King Edward's in Fulwood. I seem to recall liking the opening best - just the musicians before the singer came on, in particular Tony Hicks guitar.

Remember Pat Belshaw at Mansfield school in Brierfield. He was in a skiffle group with Dave and Paul Shannon, also Tony Hicks was a member of the same band. Saw them a couple of times at Regent cinema club and Haggate school. Then later as the Dolphins at the Dolphin Club in Colne. Pete Jackson Spring Hill Florida U.S.A.

I remember Peter Atherton very well. His family lived almost opposite Woodplumpton Boys Club where Ricky Shaw and the Dolphins played, I think 3 times and always on a Friday night and organised by Woodplumpton Boy Scouts. Possibly Woodplumpton Girl Guide Group had a hand in the organisation as well. Ronnie Cross was the main organiser and he tells the story, they wanted £25 to play, but he would only give them £20. What a great group, the Boys Club was always packed when they played. One of the memories is the drummer always wore a hat, or cap. Bobby Elliott was still wearing one when I went to see The Hollies at Buxton a few years ago. If I had gone the year after,  that show was dedicated to The Dolphins. Great memories.

Tony Hicks used to live on the same street as my junior school in Nelson. I remember going round to his house for his autograph one Friday night at tea-time. His mum invited me in and they were having fish & chips for tea, Tony, his sister + Mum and Dad. Must have been 1965.  Peter, 41 years in Perth, Australia.

I used to work in the Redifusion record shop in Nelson. Bernie Calvert came in nearly every Saturday afternoon before he joined the Hollies. He would listen to records in the booths but I can't remember him buying anything. I worked there with Maureen Hicks, Tony's sister. Tony and Bobby Elliott would occasionally come into the shop and try to order some obscure record just to test us. Bobby who went on to marry Maureen was in the year ahead of me at Nelson Grammar School.
