Fagins (Oxford St)

Fagin's was at 65 Oxford Street, Manchester and opened in 1970.

It was opposite The Gaumont Cinema, 44-50 Oxford Street, Manchester 1 (opened Monday, October 21, 1935).
Fagins had four rooms. The resident band at the club was The Bill Sykes Four.

It later became Jilly's in 1983 and towards the end Jilly's Rockworld.  Both closed by 2010.

Another club underneath the Oxford Street club was Rafters that later became Musicbox.

Yes it was John Bagnall it was the manager in the 70s was there 4 several years as head waiter the buns we had were fantastic

I'm sure I went to see Bauhaus there and Nico was singing with them. Not sure if it was there or not must have been early 80's.

Congratulations,If you want to celebrate 60/70 with your friends go to Minehead Butlins for their Big weekenders ,you can get vip tickets better service,but get the best accommodation on their lakes area.Back to Fagins  I was a regular there in the seventies.Pete Price was the compère he was superb extremely funny.I remember you got chicken & chips as part of the entrance fee we were standing in a long queue at the counter when all of a sudden we saw a mouse run along the top of the architrave ,needless to say we were now at the front of queue.Saw all the best comedians and bands of the day there Del Shannon Lonnie Donegal Joe Brown  Dooleys Grumbleweeds Bernard manning Little & Large etc.Fond memories

Several of my friends  and I, all from the Sale/Brooklands/Altrincham area went to Fagins in the 70’s whenever we were celebrating an occasion. We’re about to celebrate out Golden Wedding on the 5th Aug 23 and were hoping Fagins was still going, what a reunion that would have been.
Any similar suggestions as to where we could go to soak up Manchester atmosphere on the 5th?

It was Rafters when I worked there. Mike Shaft was the DJ. I did know Paul Young but it was before Sad Cafe although I did meet up with him in Fagins when he was in Sad Cafe. Such a nice guy ?

I worked at Fagins in 1974 / 1975 and the manager was John Bagnall. He was there till it closed down. Great times
